Opening in 1861 Brooklyn Academy Of Music began to be known for its progressive and adventurous artist. BAM’s held first opera performance “Mercadante’s ll Giuramento” in their original location on Montague street but do to a fire in 1903 BAM was forced to shut its doors and reopened on Lafayette in 1908.
This year BAM is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
Located at 30 Lafayette Ave this historic landmark holds a special place in my heart as it’s one of if not the only theatre in Brooklyn you can come to and enjoy independent/non mainstream films. BAM has always embraced the unique individual talents and has provided a platform for the artist to shine. Take a moment to check their calendar and catch a show while you’re in town, you will be quite pleased. Click for current shows at BAM.
