I had the pleasure of watching her perform and I must say, her voice is captivating. Somi will be performing at Prospect Park in Brooklyn at 7pm. Joining her will be Angelique Kidjo, Laurie Anderson, and Sibongile Khumalo in the premier of “Women Waging Peace” a dynamic multi-artist concert tribute to Kenyan activist and Noble Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai. The International African Arts Festival In Brooklyn Is Happening June 30th-July 4th, 2012.
This #FREE festival welcomes over 75,000 annual attendees. Originally starting out as a simple fundraiser for the Uhuru Sasa School this event has blossomed and this year will proudly celebrate it’s 41st anniversary. Having outgrown venues time after time the festival will be held at the Commodore Barry Park by the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This space is large enough to accommodate all attendees.
